Brian Flaspohler is a baseball historian who claims that the first professional game of baseball in St. Louis took place on May 4, 1875.<\/span>\u00a0St. Louis lost but won.<\/span>\u00a0The St. Louis Brown Stockings defeated the St. Louis Red Stockings 15 to 9.<\/span>\u00a0Out-of-town ringers were needed to create the first professional St. Louis ball club.<\/span>\u00a0The Brown Stockings were created by these ringers.<\/span>\u00a0The Red Stockings was an amateur team of unprofessional and scrappy players.<\/span>\u00a0They were disappointed to find that no St. Louis baseball players made it onto the city’s first professional baseball team.<\/span>\u00a0Flaspohler stated that the Cardinals would continue to exist.<\/span>\u00a0They weren’t the first major league team to visit St. Louis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brian Flaspohler has published Baseball History: A Guide.<\/span>\u00a0This book explores Lou\u2019s rich history.<\/span><\/p>\n

South Compton Avenue hosted the first professional soccer match.<\/span>\u00a0It is now called Midtown.<\/span>\u00a0Lafayette Park was a popular spot to play amateur baseball during the Civil War.<\/span>\u00a0Harris-Stowe State University’s diamond for baseball is exactly where the original Negro League St. Louis Stars Park was constructed more than 100 years earlier.<\/span>\u00a0Legend has it that Babe Ruth was lured to Forest Park Avenue’s brothel.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the middle 20th century, St. Louis was home to two major league teams: the Cardinals and the Browns.<\/span>\u00a0Each team had an apartment in Lindell Towers or Coronado Place or Towers At Grand Center.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both teams won the World Series.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flaspohler claims that the Cardinals manager sent an email to the Browns manager, in which he stated: “You can have my apartment for the World Series.”<\/span>\u00a0Flaspohler asserts that the Cardinals manager sent an e-mail to the Browns manager in which he said: “You can take my apartment for the World Series.”<\/span><\/p>\n

History of St. Louis Baseball.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many are familiar with the Kansas City Monarchs and Negro League.<\/span>\u00a0Flaspohler says that the history of the league’s existence is “a fascinating but untold tale.”<\/span>\u00a0Six of the original league teams were founded by the St. Louis Giants in 1920.<\/span>\u00a0Later, they were renamed The Stars.<\/span>\u00a0In 1928 and 1930, they were given pennants.<\/span>\u00a0Ten years later, they were again on the rise.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said, “The Stars tell a remarkable story that not many people are aware of.”<\/span>\u00a0Amazingly, baseball can still be played in the same stadium it used to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flaspohler stated, “Every generation in St. Louis had somebody to cheer for,” specifically referring to the fact that the Cardinals never won the World Series despite playing more than 25 seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has problems dealing with historians.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1882, the Cardinals were founded.<\/span>\u00a0They are the foundation of today’s team.<\/span>\u00a0It reads “est.<\/span>\u00a01892. “<\/span>\u00a0“They joined the National League in 1892 even though they had been around for more than a decade.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flaspohler lauds the Cardinals’ families and The DeWitts for their efforts in preserving the game’s history.<\/span>\u00a0Flaspohler points out Busch Stadium’s Hall of Fame Museum, as an example of their efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n
